No more Iffah

It has been more than two months and Iffah still refuses to be called Iffah. Every morning when she wakes up she will say her name. ( any of the Disney princess's names ) Sometimes she changes everyday, sometimes she sticks to one name for a week. For more than a week now, she is Aurora.

I am fine with her name changing but the fact that she gets upset whenever Iffah is used is giving me a headache. She will be upset seeing her sticker name on her story books and toys and gets angry whenever people forgets her new name.

In addition, not only is she renouncing her name. She is also renouncing her "Malayness". After 3 years of being comfortable conversing in Malay, she now wants to speak only English and insists that everybody does the same. Even the word ibu or ayah cannot be used. "That's Malay speak", she says. " I am English." Atuk gets on her nerve the most for using Iffah and his wrong pronunciation. " You cannot speak English, you cannot say Three! It is Three not tree"

She will also not hesitate to tell the teachers at Kindermusik or Montessori her name.

I am hoping that she will snap out of this phase, but I also wonder if she is being bratty and difficult.
